Spiced Cranberry Apple Cider Recipe – Cozy Fall & Winter Drink

  • Author: Mary

Ingredients

🍎 Apple Cider

Use a high-quality apple cider for the best results. Look for fresh-pressed or unfiltered cider for that rich, rustic flavor. Apple juice can work in a pinch, but cider adds more depth.

🍒 Cranberry Juice

Use 100% cranberry juice for that tangy, deep flavor. Avoid cranberry juice cocktails that contain added sugar or corn syrup. The tartness balances the sweetness of the cider.

🍊 Orange Slices

Oranges add a citrusy brightness to balance the spices and sweetness. Include both slices and zest for a fuller flavor.

🌰 Whole Spices

Spices are the heart of this drink. Use whole cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, and allspice for maximum flavor without overpowering the drink.

🍯 Sweeteners (Optional)

You can sweeten your cider with brown sugar, honey, or maple syrup depending on your preference. This is completely adjustable based on your sweetness threshold.

💧 Water (Optional)

Depending on how concentrated your juices are, a bit of water can help balance the flavor.

Instructions

🔥 On the Stovetop

  1. Combine Ingredients
In a large stockpot, add 4 cups of apple cider, 2 cups of cranberry juice, 1 sliced orange, and your spices (3 cinnamon sticks, 4–5 cloves, 1 star anise).

  2. Bring to a Simmer
Heat on medium until the mixture begins to simmer. Do not boil—this can make it taste bitter.

  3. Steep the Flavors
Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 20–30 minutes. Stir occasionally. Taste and add honey or brown sugar if desired.

  4. Strain and Serve
Remove whole spices and orange slices. Serve hot in mugs. Garnish with a fresh orange slice or cinnamon stick.

🐢 In the Slow Cooker

  1. Add All Ingredients
Place all juices, fruit, and spices in a 6-quart slow cooker.

  2. Cook on Low
Let it simmer on low for 3–4 hours. Your house will smell amazing!

  3. Serve Warm
Strain and serve directly from the slow cooker.

⚡ In the Instant Pot

  1. Use the “Saute” Mode
Add juices, orange slices, and spices.

  2. Pressure Cook on Low for 10 Minutes
    Allow natural pressure release.

  3. Strain & Serve
Let cool slightly, strain, and serve.
