Easy French Toast Casserole Recipe | Perfect Make-Ahead Breakfast Casserole

  • Author: Mary

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 loaf (16 oz) French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

  • 8 large eggs

  • 2 cups milk

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces

Topping (optional):

  • Powdered sugar

  • Maple syrup

  • Fresh berries or chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and spread the bread cubes evenly in the dish.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, both sugars, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.

  3. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing down lightly to make sure all the bread gets soaked.

  4. Dot the top with small pieces of butter.

  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for best flavor and texture.

  6. Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake the casserole uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set.

  7. Let it cool slightly before serving. Top with powdered sugar, syrup, berries, or nuts if desired.
