Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (8-ounce) block of cheddar cheese
- 1 (9-ounce) bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
-
Prepare the Cheese:
- Slice the cheddar cheese into ½-inch thick squares. Then, cut each square diagonally to form triangles.
-
Crush the Doritos:
- Place the Doritos in a zip-top bag and crush them into fine crumbs using a rolling pin or a food processor. Pour the crushed Doritos into a shallow dish.
-
Set Up the Breading Station:
- In one shallow bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- In a second bowl, beat the eggs until well blended.
- Place the crushed Doritos in a third bowl.
-
Bread the Cheese Triangles:
- Dredge each cheese triangle in the seasoned flour, shaking off any excess.
- Dip the floured cheese into the beaten eggs, ensuring it’s fully coated.
- Press the egg-coated cheese into the crushed Doritos, covering it completely.
- For an extra crispy layer, repeat the egg dip and Doritos coating.
-
Freeze the Coated Cheese:
- Place the coated cheese triangles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Freeze for at least 1 hour to help the coating adhere and prevent the cheese from melting too quickly during frying.
-
Fry the Cheese-Stuffed Doritos:
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Ensure there’s enough oil to fully submerge the cheese triangles.
- Fry the frozen, coated cheese triangles in batches for 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
-
Serve:
- Enjoy immediately while warm and gooey. These make a perfect appetizer or snack for any gathering!
